Administrative Council Information
The primary purpose of the Church Council is to be a future oriented body, focused on the mission, vision, goals, and strategic planning of the church. The primary taskes of the Church Council is to :
1) Carry out the business of the charge conference.
2) Help the congregation articulate its vision.
3) Oversee planning of the congregation.
4) Develop systems that assure people are received into fellowship, guided, and encouraged in their spiritual transformation and growth, and supported as they live out their lives as Christian Disciples.
The Church Council is the major decision making body of the church. They encourage the active participation and input of all members to insure that the decision making process is representive of the desires and needs of the congregation. All decisions are prayerfully made and in line with the mission of making disciples of Jesus Christ.
The Ad Council consists of representatives from each of the other committees, typically the chairpersons. This committee provides for planning and implementing programs of nurture, outreach, witness, and resources in the church. It also provides for the administration of its organization and temporal life. It shall envision, plan, implement, and annually evaluate the mission and ministry of the church. The council shall be amenable to and function as the administrative agency of the charge conference.
The Ad Council meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month. In order for the council to give adequate consideration to the missional purpose of the local church, it is recommended that the first agenda item at each meeting be related to its ministries of nurture, outreach, and witness. The administrative and supportive responsibilities of the church will then be given attention. It is recommended that the council use a consensus/discernment model of decision-making.
It is also the responsibility of this council to review the membership of the local church; fill interim vacancies occurring among the lay officers of the church between sessions of the annual conference; establish the budget on recommendation of the Finance Committee and ensure adequate provision for the financial needs of the church; recommend to the charge conference the salary and other remuneration of the pastor(s) and staff members after receiving recommendations from the Staff Parish Committee; review the recommendations of the Staff Parish Committee regarding provision of adequate housing for the pastor(s), and report the same to the annual conference for approval.
