For centuries music has been used to by believers
to profess their love for God. HUMC is no different. Music is used in
each service to help us understand at the core of our being the
possibilities Christ has to transform our lives. The music springs not
from a singular vision or worship style but from the gifts and efforts
of a team of people who are bound together by their love of Christ,
music, and each other. Songs are taken from many different eras and
cultures and are sung because their message touches our hearts and
minds. Spirituals, hymns, R &B based gospel, and rock and roll
based praise music are woven together. The timeless message of this
music resonates in our hearts and reminds us of our love for God, and
of his love for us. It is our goal to worship the Lord with every
member of our congregation. We use music to create participants, not
observers, and hope everyone can experience the joy that the promise of
salvation brings to each of our lives.
Below are links to recordings and lead sheets of
some of the songs I have had the honor to write for use in our Sunday
services. Feel free to use them within the constraints of copyright
law as they are registered with BMI. These songs reflect a small part
of the music ministry at HUMC and we hope they provide a sample of what
a congregant can expect on a Sunday morning. "Church On a Hill" is a
song about the extaordinary impact on a life an ordinary church can
have on an ordinary fella. I never bothered to write it down and I'm
